North Port has long been major wacko in their codes and enforcement.
Example: a friend of mine put in some (mandated) shrubs around his house. They were not mature enough for North Port's liking -- you have some code that specifies minimum height. Despite the fact that his shrubs were a variety that would grow within a year to the minimum size (and continue to grow after that), he was forced to rip them out and replace them with older, taller shrubs or face immediate fines. Why kill perfectly good shrubs merely because they are the correct variety but too young?
That kind of thinking permeates North Port's bureaucracy and is absolutely insane. This is egos and power-trips unchecked -- we will do this not because it makes sense but because we can.
My friend pleaded for mercy as the unexpected double (and highly expensive) expense was beyond his means at the moment -- he had to borrow from friends to comply in order to avoid a fine, and for what? To get the same shrubs that he would have had in another year anyway if the city had just walked away from it.
Madness. Absolute arrogant and mindless madness, straight out of the Terry Gilliam movie "Brazil.".
I hope North Port gets the bejeebers sued out of it. I, for one, will applaud mightily. Asshats, one and all that are too dumb to walk and breathe at the same time.
You guys realize that in many ways, you make Venice look good, right?
