Good luck with that one. Unfortunately the long time residents of Venice view even traffic lights as "too modern" and a ruination of the small town feel of Venice. I love the small town feel of Venice, that's why I moved here, but there has to be some realistic view of the present day. The attitude against traffic lights or other road improvements seems to always be viewed that Venice will turn into Tampa, Orlando, or Miami, I can understand the fear of that...however, with so many cars "in season" the attitude toward traffic lights has led to dangerous areas such as U.S. 41 Walmart across the St. from Target Shopping Center and NO traffic light, to dangerous or at least difficult intersections such as Ridgewood Ave. and Pinebrook Ave. and Lucaya Ave. and Pinebrook...out of season traffic lights seem stupid at these intersection, I would agree with that, but "in season" are definatly needed...as far as biking I would welcome any improvements to help bikers, not only for recreation but also considering gas prices already hitting 4 dollars a gallon and maybe 5 or 6...I love small town Venice!!!, but I do not think traffic lights and safety mean that we have to give into never ending condos and tall buildings...there has to be a happy medium...
