How about an accounting?

In these times of financial hardship for individuals and communities and government alike, isn't it time we take a hard look at some of the "perks" we, the taxpayers are providing to officials before we look at cutting more jobs? I would like to have an accounting of exactly how much it has cost the city of Venice for the "healthcare for life" provision for city councilmembers from the date of its inception to date. I firmly believe this is an over the top benefit that should not only end but should be denied retroactively. If big corporations can shed their health care obligations for retirees, then surely the city can shed this uncalled for perk for such little time of service. This fiscal responsibility could potentially financially cripple the city over time. Personally, I think the next election should ask those running to include in their platform the revocation of this expense and make it's demise retroactive. I still would like to see these numbers from the start to date.
