August 5, 2002 - Pollution Control Supervisory Personnel Recommendation - memo from John Lane to George Hunt, in which Lane reverses himself on his recommendations of July 23: "I have been unable to convince myself that hostility exists throughout pollution control... I cannot in all good conscience recommend discipline of the Pollution Control supervisory personnel." -- Page 1 -- Page 2 -- Page 3 -- Page 4 -- Page 5

August 13, 2002 - AFSCME Union rep Dennis Rodriguez speaks before city council. Rodriguez states that there is a culture of retribution in the Utilities Department and that the city has done nothing to change it. Speakers: Dennis Rodriguez, Mayor Dean Calamaras -- MP3 (2.5MBs)

August 13, 2002 - John Patten of Venice Florida! dot com tells council that the culture of retribution described by Rodriguez is endemic to the way the city government handles its problems with employees, citizens and the media. Examples cited are himself, a former employee of the city who was fired after complaining to the union, and a WWSB News40 TV reporter. Speakers: John Patten, George Hunt, Mayor Dean Calamaras - MP3 (2.5MBs)

John Patten is the head of Web Operations for Creative Pages, and has worked in broadcasting for over 12 years. He can also be incredibly rude at times.
