Venice Main Street axes staff
Directors want volunteers to man the office

Empty office
In a letter dated September 1 and that arrived in mailboxes on the 8th, directors of Venice Main Street informed members that "...the position of VMS Program Manger [sic] has been discontinued due to financial restructuring." That position had been held by Cathy Linder.

Linder, who is not mentioned by name in the letter, confirmed that she had been laid off by the merchant's association and stated that, as of now, Venice Main Street has no staff at all. Linder stated that the decision had been made in a board meeting that she was excluded from attending.

The letter goes on to say that the board will be active in the operations of VMS and asked for volunteers to man the office.

The letter was signed by the four officers of the association, Judy Lawrence, Helen Moore, Susan Vedder and Jean Trammell.

John Patten is the editor and publisher of Venice Florida! dot com and had previously worked in broadcasting for over 12 years. He can also be incredibly rude at times.
